Optimize Your Spring Tillage

The Optimer® L high-speed compact disc, with independent 20" disc blades, is the ideal machine for quality shallow soil cultivation promoting decomposition of organic matter while preventing soil moisture loss. Working widths: 9’ 10” – 24’ 7” (3.0 m – 7.5 m). Mounted and trailed models.

The KUHN Optimer® L is a high-speed compact disc available in mounted and trailed versions to meet the needs of a wide variety of customers. As a “small-disc” machine with 20” (510 mm) diameter blades, the Optimer L is best suited for high speed, shallow working depths, and lighter residue loads. Each disc blade uses its own suspension arm and elastomer mounting blocks to clear obstacles without upsetting the rest of the blades. Standard hydraulic working depth adjustment keeps the operator in the comfort of the tractor seat, reducing fatigue and downtime. Several standard features and options including side deflectors, following harrows, and rear roller options help your operation configure the machine to meet your individual needs.

Features may include:

Built Smart

Main Frame

Both the mounted and trailed versions of the Optimer L are built on a strong frame with generous clearance underneath that allows soil and residue to pass through unhindered. Mounted versions use a rigid frame integrated with the headstock. Trailed versions have a large “backbone” that forms the main structure between the hitch and transport carriage. The discs and roller then mount to folding wing subframes that in turn mount to the main structure.

Disc Blades

All Optimer L models come standard with 20” (510 mm) diameter, notched disc blades. These blades are nearly ¼” (6 mm) thick for greater durability and a longer wear life. As seen in the center picture, each blade mounts to its own arm at a compound angle (6° from vertical and 15° from horizontal) to create a high-quality cutting and mixing action. The individual suspension arms mean that only individual discs are affected in the event of an obstacle strike, rather than an entire gang. The suspension arms bolt to sealed bearings that are lubed-for-life with high-quality synthetic grease. This greatly reduces time spent maintaining the machine.

Disc Blade Suspension

The suspension arm for each disc blade mounts to the frame with four polyurethane elastomer blocks. These blocks firmly hold the arms in place, yet have some “give” that allows the arm and disc blade to flex up and out of the way when an obstacle is struck in the field. Just like the suspension arms, the blocks are independent for each disc blade.

Side Deflectors

The side deflector discs catch soil and residue thrown from the disc blades and deflect it downward into the path of the roller, reducing the formation of ridges and promoting an even, level field finish. Each deflector adjusts in three directions: length, depth, and distance from the center of the machine, allowing the operator to fine-tune the field finish depending on conditions.

Adjustable Working Depth

Hydraulic Depth Control

Hydraulic depth control is a standard feature on all Optimer L models. Connected to a tractor SCV, the cylinders raise or lower the rear roller to obtain the desired working depth. Hydraulic control allows the operator to remain in the comfort of the cab and make quick adjustments as needed.
